Description | He is wearing a helmet with a crest knob. A groove below the waist indicates either the lower edge of a breast-plate or a belt; otherwise the figure is nude. The face has been portrayed in more detail, and stylistically it is not Roman. The eyes are large and circular, the ears, over-large and oval, stand proud from the head, the short nose continues the brow ridge and a groove forms a very wide mouth. Owing to a casting fault the features are distorted and asymmetrical (Johns and Rigby). With more on metallurgy. Henig feels this could be Iron Age |
