Description | Nude male standing in usual pose of Hercules with left arm outstretched and draped with lionskin while the right arm is raised to hold the missing club, although the right arm is not raised above the head and the forearm in not as close to the head as usual. Slightly more modelling than is seen on some of the more stylised, provincial Hercules. Torso quite short in relation to arms and legs, head quite small. Legs below knees and feet too small, toes not depicted. Only the tips of the fingers are depicted. Left hand curled to hold missing object? Some depiction of musculature. Left eye slightly higher than the right. Wavy hair, ridge around face with very slight peak on top. Top of thighs joined. Herringbone incisions on lionskin. |
