System Requirements and Installation

The York System is an Access 2000 database file, and as such requires the user to have Microsoft Access 2000 or later installed. This is part of Office 2000 (or successors) and is widely available. The database files (including image and help files) need to be installed on your hard disk at a location of your choice. About 30MB of storage space is needed, though this can be reduced by not installing the help files.

Download the York System (19MB zip format)

The York System is best installed in the following order:

  1. Download the zip file listed above and extract the contents to a directory of your choice.
  2. Right-click the database icon for York.mdb, select Properties, and uncheck the 'Read-only' box (if selected).
  3. Open York.mdb and, from the Tools menu, select Options. Choose Edit/Find and un-check all 'confirm' boxes. (This stops messages appearing every time you add or delete something from the database.)
  4. Choose initialise from the switchboard.
  5. Restart the computer (this makes it run faster and more efficiently).
