The easiest way to load the shapefiles is simply to open the project file for the species in question. The shapefiles should already be available within this, although in some cases it may be necessary to repair the links. Shapefile names should appear under 'Layers' in the pane on the left of the screen. If the entries are shown with a red exclamation mark, right-click one of them and choose 'Repair data', then select the relevant shapefile using the dialogue box. Unless you have moved some of the files into a different folder from others this should automatically repair the links to all of them. Alternatively, the shapefiles can be individually loaded into a new project using the 'add data' option in the file menu. Layers can be turned on and off by checking or unchecking the box next to their entry in the list pane, and can be dragged up or down the list to change the order in which they are displayed.
