Description | Bent at the shoulders, Legs truncated but widely splayed to fit around a horse. Hips very wide, buttocks and female genitalia emphasised. 'V' shaped line across hips. Narrow waist and upper body with slight indications of breasts. The upper body is covered with incised horizontal and vertical lines suggesting armour, vertical lines on the lower body may represent the pleats. There is a curved band with incised radial lines representing a collar and the sleeves are wide and appear to end at the elbow. Right arm curved over shoulder and ending in a large fist that is likely to have held a weapon. Left arm truncated. Head small and neat, face worn but appears feminine. The figure is wearing a crested helmet.. . This figure is female and might represent an equestrian Minerva linked with the Celtic goddess Epona (PAS database). |
