Description | A female panther who 'rests both her forepaws on the upper edge of a round shield; this shield carries a grotesque male countenance framed by a shock of hair, with ram's horns emerging from it, and by a luxuriant beard. . . belongs to a class of objects, probably the ornamental handles of bronze vessels of some sort, that are not uncommon on the Continent (Toynbee) |
