Description | The object has lost much of its original patina. The figurine is standing in a naturalistic, classical pose - one hip slightly higher than the other, leaning on one leg, the stomach slumping slightly forwards. The figure is dressed in a short sleeved shirt below a cuirass breast plate (probably representing leather). He has a short, above the knee flared tunic skirt. The skirt and sleeves are decorated with incised lines. No detail survives on his legs or arms, but the surviving hand has indications of fingers. The hand is clasped around a shaft, broken just outside the extent of the hand. This is thought to be a spear. This hand is raised to head height, whilst the other one hangs to the side. The facial expression is largely obscured with corrosion and pitting, but two hollows for eyes, a straight groove for a mouth and pinched nose can be seen. The hair is close-cropped, and the Corinthian helmet appears to sit on the back of the head. It has a tall, elaborate crest (PAS). |
