The programme of archaeological research at Hacienda Zuleta is still in its early stages, but the two phases of fieldwork reported here have already established valuable information upon the chronology, cultural affiliation, social organisation and subsistence base of this important site. We have also been afforded a clear view into the impact that major environmental events such as volcanic eruptions have played in the life of the region's people and one community's response to and survival of it. However, much remains to be clarified in terms of a broader view of the life and nature of this community through the course of its occupation of the site.
