Partnership between national and local bodies has supported the
creation of the professional infrastructure. An SMR Users Group (now HER Forum) has
been established, providing an effective forum for informing SMR
professionals and discussing new initiatives. Practical support is
also being provided through training courses and the production of
resources for SMR staff, for example a manual of good practice
guidance (Fernie and Gilman
2000). In the last couple of years, a discussion list, SMR Forum, has
been created and this has helped disseminate news and information to
SMR staff, as well as promoting healthy debate about topical
issues.
