3.3 Scale

Scale refers to the level of spatio-temporal representation or extent of detail in which the digital features reflect a real world. GIS packages usually do not force any restriction on the scale of analysis or data. The scale of analysis can be anything from local to global.

However, engagement with the environment is most of all a bodily activity. Time and space are not derived from our heads, but rather from our bodies. If we aim to model perception within GIS, emphasis should be given to experience on a human scale. The scale of analysis and of data used should be attuned to a human scale.
