Acceptance of the SASSA tools by the intended user community is critical to the success of this project. Incremental development of the SASSA system has been cognisant of user interface design, as well as functionality and content requirements throughout. From the project inception, when a 'User Advisory Group' and 'Academic Advisory Group' were formed to offer pertinent advice to the development team, significant discussion has taken place on both the requirements and work produced. Feedback from users is still being sought via an online questionnaire linked to the SASSA questionnaire.
We have held seven workshops at various sites across the UK where both academics and practitioners have participated in using the tool. In addition, two field studies have been undertaken with a view to evaluating the potential of the tool out on a field site. SASSA has also been presented at seven international conferences to expose the tool to the wider community. The main questions that we sought to answer regarding SASSA were regarding its ease of use and its potential usefulness for geoarchaeologists. A summary of the comments received is provided in the next section.
