5.5 Responses to images

The overall objective of this project was to bridge the gaps between archaeologist, subject, and audience and facilitate user-led engagement with the past. The degree of engagement with (and circumvention of) these gaps was, therefore, also evaluated through monitored participant engagement with the collage packs.

Participants were asked to self-monitor their use of the images in Collage Packs A and B by asking them to record on their instruction sheets the order in which they read the chapters and the images they found most (and/or least) useful for each chapter. The value of including a wide selection of images for participants to choose from as part of their own imaginative engagement was then evaluated by collating the data this provided. Responses of the participating group (some individuals opted not to self-monitor) were compared for variability, consistency, contradiction, and evidence of imaginative engagement.
