1.2 Instruction sheet
The following instructions have been adapted from the original for use with the online version of the 'Ye Devill Among Ym' project to allow Internet Archaeology readers to experience participation in the primary user-led interpretation studies discussed in the main article Translating the Past.
- Read the remaining sections from Part I, which provide information on methodologies employed in research and additional historical information. Use Collage Pack A to illustrate the text as described in the Collage Pack instructions.
- When you have finished reading Part I, open Collage Pack B and go to the Part II menu. You can choose to read the short chapters in any order. There are links at the bottom of each chapter to suggest possible routes through the text, but you can choose something different. They are simply suggestions to follow if you are uncertain what to do next. Use the images from Collage Pack B to illustrate the text as you are reading. During trials, participants were asked to record the order they read the chapters and the images they found the most useful here.
- Progress to Part III and follow the instructions. Participants were asked to write answers discussing the text.
- Participants were then interviewed for discussion of the article content, their interpretations and of the format of the 'experiment'. This helped to identify new ways of improving the method presented and alternative applications. Questions for the interview were not predetermined, but were based upon participant responses as appropriate. Internet Archaeology readers' feedback would also be very welcome.
