The lion is almost always shown couchant with his forelegs stretched out in front of him and his head, with a luxurious mane, held high (502, 561, 685 and 1000). Many lion figurines are actually furniture or vessel attachments, and it is possible that these figurines were attachments too. A single stylised figurine from London shows the lion standing (476).
