The horse has already been mentioned in association with horse and rider figurines, and some of the figures found on their own may well have once borne riders, although none of the horses examined by the author and listed here show evidence for the attachment of a rider. All of the horses are shown standing, some with a raised foreleg (202). Some, such as Horse 202 from Spalding, Lincolnshire, are fairly naturalistic, while others, for instance Horse 793 from Frocester, Gloucestershire, are more stylised. One example from Bunwell, Norfolk is decorated with crescentic stamps (687).
