4.3.2 Coarseware 1

This is the most common type of Etruscan fabric. The fabric is very variable but is generally sandy and varies in colour from dark red through brown to black. Some vessels are slipped or wiped, but most examples are undecorated. The fabric is used for a wide range of cooking and storage vessels and the bowls were probably also used as tableware. The most common form of decoration is a cordon around the body of the pot either impressed with a finger tip or smeared to give the appearance of a twisted cord.
