The data presented here result from developer-funded archaeological excavation projects undertaken successively by Leicestershire Archaeological Unit (LAU) until 1995, and then University of Leicester Archaeological Services (ULAS), and are therefore the collective product of many individuals' efforts. Most importantly, for LAU, Richard Pollard originally analysed the assemblage from the Little Lane cellar, and Richard Clark that from Causeway Lane. Hilary Cool and Sian Davies analysed the small finds and glass assemblages that allowed the compilation of Tables 1 and 3, while Angela Monckton and Jennifer Browning undertook the plant, oyster and faunal analyses from the three 'snapshot' groups. The late Dave Hopkins illustrated the pottery in Figure 9 and Mireya Gonzalez-Rodriguez compiled them into a single plate. The authors would like to thank the organisers of the 'Big Data on the Roman Table' project, Penelope Allison, Martin Pitts and Sarah Colley, for the generous invitation to participate in the workshops and to publish this article.
