5 Conclusion

This article presents a simple and effective method for recording caprine bone modifications by providing standard templates and suggesting particular data fields which may be incorporated into existing databases. While these templates may be used to record bone modifications on artiodactyls other than caprines, ideally other species specific templates will be created. Standardisation of bone modification recording is desirable so that researchers may confidently compare data with one another. It is hoped that these templates, and the recording procedure associated with them, will be widely used, and perhaps improved upon, encouraging standardisation and comparability across the field.
