3.2.4 Period 4. Roman

The very top fills of several features have produced sherds of Roman date, including of the 3rd-early 4th century, but this is almost certainly intrusive from topsoil, or in the remains of ancient soils collected and surviving in the sinkage hollows above the fills of larger Iron Age features (e.g. 0001.1, or 1010). Some Roman activity, therefore, probably agricultural, is indicated. A few fragments of ceramic roof tile (e.g. 1548.15) also suggest a substantial Roman-style building in the vicinity.
