3.7.5 Medieval and later pottery

The medieval and later assemblage is very small and reflects the deserted nature of the site, which was turned over to rig and furrow cultivation soon after, if not before, the Norman Conquest. The material offers little potential for detailed stud y, although it may offer some statistical information on background distribution which may be of relevance to the interpretation of field-walking data. All the material has been introduced from outside, presumably from night-soiling, and there was no evid ence of contemporary occupation. Similarly, there are small quantities of post-medieval and modern material.
