The area of the inner berm showing the ditch of period 4 cut into earlier deposits.
Period 4 - The deposits on the berm of periods 2 and 3, and the filling of the inner ditch (to right) have been cut into from a higher level by a comparatively wide and shallow defensive ditch, and become filled with dark stoney and earthy clay [42]. This first phase showed a characteristic deepening at its rear edge. The fill in this ditch was later recut (period 4B) and became filled with a dark earthy clay [32].
