2. Geological Setting

The stone tool manufacturing site is situated in the Sai Kung West Country Park on the western slopes of Wong Tei Tung, a densely vegetated hill which rises from sea level to a height of 154m (Fig. 3: view of Wong Tei Tung hill and shoreline, looking east). The rocks that outcrop along the eastern shoreline of Kei Ling Ha Hoi vary in composition and are mainly metasediments or volcaniclastic in origin. Although some faulting occurs, the rocks that crop out on the western slopes of Wong Tei Tung are less faulted than those exposed at Shek Nga Tau (Fig. 4: view from the quarry site, looking north), which lies slightly to the north.
