Help on searching the Bilzingsleben Data

Compiled by Judith Winters

There are 5 online databases that make up the Bilzingsleben data set. The datasets are provided for online searching in English only but most of the data is available in English and German for downloading, allowing you to search and query the data offline too.

General Points

Morphology Catalogue query form | Metrical data query form | Locational data query form
| Shed antler data query form | Unshed antler data query form

Operands for sophisticated searching

Operands will work with both number and text strings. Note that not all of these will be useful with every data set.

OperandMeaningBilzingsleben Example
< Less than<79 in the Formzahl field of the Shed antler data set returns coefficients of less than 79 only.
> Greater than>360 in the length field of the Metrical data set will only return antler finds greater than 360mm in length.
<= Less than or equal to<=35 in the Coefficient field in the Unshed data set will return finds with coefficients of 35 or less.
>= Greater than or equal to>=61 in the Y coord field in the Locational data set will return finds from the northernmost area of the excavation grid i.e. with 61m or higher as their Y co-ordinate.
!= or <> Not equal to!=0 in the thickness field of the Metrical data set (for all finds where measurements are not available)
<>36.0000&<>36.2500 in the xcoord field.
== Exact match==33.0000 in the Xcoord field in the Locational data set will return entries only with the exact X coordinate of 330000
Also use == to search for phrases e.g. ==brow tine or ==lower main beam fragment
{ Begins with {10 in the ID field will return 10, 101, 100, {crown tine will return crown tine fragment basal, crown tine fragment, crown tine
} Ends with 8} in the ID field will return 8, 28, 108
.. A range of values 50 .. 52 in the length field will return lengths beginning with 50 and up to (and including) 52.
| Or. Will match any of the specified expressions {100 | {104 in the ID field will return entries from excavation squares 100 and 104.
also burr | pedicle, {pedicle | burr
& And. Will match all of the specified expressions.fragment & pedicle in the morphology field will return entries that contain both fragment and pedicle.
>1 & <=10 in the width field will return entries of widths greater than 1mm but less than or equal to 10mm.
