3.1.2 The window in room 23

As discussed in the roofing section later, the lack of natural light to room 23 and the discovery of a drain in excavations resulted in a hypothesised light well above room 22. This not only allows room 23 some natural light through the hypothesised internal window (Figure 19) but also allows room 22 and corridor 12 to be lit where otherwise they would have to rely on the meagre illumination from the atrium and kitchen (Figures 20 & 21). The camera's wide view allows us to look both north and east. The lighting in these images is solely designed to illustrate sources of natural light and is not intended to be realistic.
