6.5 Interpretative narratives

An interpretive narrative framework will be established for the Atlas of Islamic Merv project that will enable readers/researchers to understand the use of evidence, and also encourage them to reuse the data to advance new interpretations. Some of the narratives will be held within the database, linked to specific sets of information, such as individual wall lines, or whole transcription layers within the GIS, while others will function to create knowledge networks on specific themes, such as gardens and horticulture.

In addition to textual narratives, other visual and audio media have been incorporated into the archive and are used in this article. Some of these are linked to specific discussion points in the text, or they can be accessed as a body of material through the digital archive.
